Our trip around the world starts with a snowstorm in early November 2019 in Montreal. To make sure we make it in time to the airport we rented a hotel room close by.

Our luggage consists of just one piece of, highly optimized, carry on and one personal item each. But we bring a large duffel bag in case our small packs don’t pass as carry-on.
The first day of our trip ends up being a total disaster with canceled flights, rebooking, stress at the US border, nearly missing the connecting flight to Honolulu. To top it all of our luggage gets lost in transit.
Oahu, Hawaii
Needless to say we were completely stressed out, fighting and exhausted as we arrive at our tiny condo overlooking Waikiki.
But the view from our window on the 25th floor is amazing.

Hawaii is one of our favorite places.
The quality of light here is amazingly beautiful. Every sunset is a colourful miracle.
Ever since we visited Kauai and the Big Island a few years ago we had to come back for more. If I could I ‘d stay forever.
But we just have 2 days, so we drive around Oahu to see as much as possible. But first we pick up flip-flops and bathing suits strolling along Ala Moana Boulevard as the sun rises.
Here are a few of the lovely sites and beaches we saw:
After two, much too short, days we leave Oahu and board a plane to our next destination: Australia.
Melbourne, Australia
Luckily our delayed luggage was delivered directly to us late the next evening. So we have our complete kit for the next part of the trip.
We leave Honolulu in the morning and arrive in Melbourne at 4pm after 11 hours of flight.
From Tullamarine we take the shuttle downtown. The bus terminal is right in the middle of the central business district and the Tramway is free.
Our Budget Hostel is close to Fitzroy Gardens and Parlement. Free public transportation makes it really easy to visit many of the sites we had time to fit in.
Here are some of the highlights in Melbourne:
- Coffee and Cappuccino
- The Polish food festival and Federation Square
- The Botanical Garden and Fitzroy Garden
- Melbourne’s lively CBD in general and
- Queen Victoria Market
