Day 1 – Montreal to Sudburry
Leaving Montreal on the TransCanada Highway heading towards the big Lakes
.
We made it passed Sudburry on our first day. We didn’t stop much the first couple of days as we have visited the area many times before.
Day 2 – Lake Superior
We enjoy Pancake Bay for a lunch break before setting up camp at Lake Superior National Park. This park is sooo beautiful with pebble beaches and turquoise waters. Just enough time left to drive to the Petroglyphs trail for a short hike.
Leaving Lake Superior on day 3 we meet a lovely Menonite family in a rest area at lunch. The girls are all dressed up for a wedding in handmade sky-blue dresses and are happy to pose for my picture on the pink rocks. Nice to meet fellow travelers and learn about their life and culture.
Our next stop is Quetico National Park. We camp by the lake and swim in the warm shallow water. Quetico is a very large park passed Lake Superior and Thunder Bay with many lakes, perfect for a quiet fishing trip.
The next morning we take a bath in the lake before saying Good Bye to Quetico and heading towards Manitoba. As we reach Manitoba it is raining cats and dogs. We spend the night in Riding Mountain National Park. What Manitobans call a mountain is actually just hills. Nothing much to do in the rain, we leave the park first thing in the morning towards Saskatchewan.
Manitoba to Saskatchewan
Manitoba – sky and flat land as far as the eyes can see. Bright yellow canola fields.
Big Muddy Valley
Next stop is Big Muddy Valley in Saskatchewan. Here the flat earth changes into rolling hills, looks like Cowboy country, cows are grazing, lovely.
We spend the evening in Grasslands National Park, hiking the hills. This is possibly the most quiet place I have seen in all of Canada.
